Photographer John Vachon was hired by the Farm Security Administration in 1937 to depict rural life in Nebraska. But, he wandered into Omaha and took these in South Omaha. Later, Vachon became recognized as one of the outstanding black/white photographers in the US, and he helped begin a genre known as “street photography”.
